This site is a collection of DVD reviews. Some of the films are esoteric and artsy and
some not so esoteric. Many of them are universally recognized as "the best" and some of them are obscure things
that no one's ever heard of. There are even a few films reviewed here that should have never been committed to
celluloid in the first place.
The point of this site is to help you to navigate through the huge number of movies
that are available to you now that you can buy them on DVD and aren't restricted to the movies that are showing
in theaters or that the programmers that work for your local television station have chosen for you. I've
attempted to do this with a minimum of personal opinion and without the "market-speak" or advertising jargon
that you might encounter at similar sites. The reviews will hopefully provide you with the information you need
to easily find "the good stuff" and not waste your time with stuff that's a waste of your time.
A warning to people that haven't read these pages before: I give away much of the plot
in a few of these reviews. Though, it is considerably less than most film books give away and, in some cases,
less than the summary on the box tells you. I give away the ending in very few of them. Basically, it should be
enough information to let you know if you're interested in a particular movie or not. It goes without saying
that if you don't agree with my opinions that you shouldn't read the reviews or you should simply buy the films
that I don't like.
The cast listings provided here are not meant to be complete. They're provided so as to
suggest relationships between these films and are added with that goal in mind. If you think that a performer or
piece of information is essential to the understanding of a particular film or its context; feel free to mail
me.
